DESCRIPTION
The oldest remains of this species have been dated to 2030 B.C. by archeologists that have studied the fauna of the Mediterranean Sea. The Balearean Goat is indigenous to the Balearean Island of Mallorca. These animals are completely wild, the biggest threat to their existence being the cross-breeding with domestic livestock.
Its coat is short and bright, brown-reddish with black stripes on the rear of the body and black legs.
Both sexes have horns, but only the horns of the males grow spirally being long and thick. Only males show a long black beard. The Balearean Government warranty a certificate of pure race.
GEOGRAPHIC RANGE
North mountains of Mallorca Island “Sierra Tramuntana” and Peninsula of Formentor.
HABITAT
Rocky mountains between 500 – 1000 m, near to the sea in the island.
